GIAMA Awards Closed Entries

Majid Michel
Entries for the 2013 edition of the Golden Icons Academy Award was officially closed last week, June 30, months after Ghanaian producers had been submitting their films for consideration.
It is unclear which movies were entered, though a close source said there appears to be strong competitive entries from Ghana.
The GIAMA Awards is an event to recognize excellence by annually honouring the achievement of actors and actresses, writers, directors, producers, technicians and other personalities in the African film industry.
Organisers are yet to confirm the venue for this year’s event but it usually held in the United of America, as the 2012 edition was held in Houston, USA.
Currently Ghana’s darling actor, Majid Michel, is GIAMA’s reigning Best Actor since he won the 2012 event.
Ghanaian movie ‘Somewhere In Africa’ took most of the major awards. Majid won the Best Actor for his role in the movie. It also won the best motion picture whilst Ghanaian director Frank Raja Arase took Best Director for his efforts in ‘Somewhere In Africa’. Producer Kwame Boadu also won Best Producer with the movie.
Actor cum producer Van Vicker took a humanitarian award for his Van Vicker Foundation.
Hopes are that Ghana will be able to repeat the same feat at the 2013 edition of the award. Months ago, the organizers pledged to be transparent.
