It is the first of its kind and the future looks very bright as it touches on one of the most respected genres in the world.
The event was launched in Accra on February 22 at the Alisa Hotel. It attracted a number of musicians and stakeholders in the entertainment industry.
Stars who have endorsed the ceremony include Bandana, Trigmatic, Stephanie Benson, Tic Tac, Stonebuoy, Wutah Kobby, Nii Lante and more.
It is an established fact that Reggae and Dancehall have made a tremendous impact among music lovers and the artistes themselves hardly get noticed or appreciated.
The award is specially designed to show gratitude to reggae and dancehall musicians, to serve as an annual gathering of lovers of reggae and dancehall and generally present top notch entertainment to the public.
The name of the event was derived from Rhythms and Bass (pronounced Base) which happened to be the basis for the reggae and dancehall genres.
The preparations for the event, which is expected to come off between June 29 and July 1, 2013, have started in earnest.
A special diary will be broadcasted on television soon before the event will be held.
Kweku Pra of Rackus Productions, organizers of the event, stated, “The BASS Awards has been a work in progress for a while now, adding that the intention is to create the continent’s biggest and foremost Reggae and Dancehall celebration every year.”
Kwaku also hinted that the event would see a performance by a top international male Dancehall artiste, though he stopped short of naming the artiste.
The BASS Awards is organised by Rackus Productions and powered by Bullhaus Entertainment and Solid Multimedia.
