Ama K. Abebrese, the first Ghanaian actress to win the Screen Nation Award’s International African Film Personality award, has said God played a part in her win.
She has dedicated the award to Leila Djansi who believed in her to cast her in her movies and also other cast and crew she had ever worked with in her filmmaking career.
The beautiful actress beat two other Ghanaians- Jackie Appiah and John Dumelo- as well as Nigeria’s Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Joseph Benjamin and Wale Ojo to win the Screen Nation Award. It was the eight edition of the award ceremony which was organized on February 17, 2013 at the Park Plaza, Westminster Bridge in London.
“The thing about almost all the awards I have won, I am usually the underdog, in the sense of I don't have 100 movies etc. So I always thank God. It’s really only Him I give glory to because when God says yes, no one can say no,” she told NEWS-ONE yesterday.
“I did not expect to win, although I was hopeful. I try to always remain hopeful with awards. That is all you can do. Being over confident can lead to disappointment, so I try to remain hopeful. I was not over confident, this time. The last time I was over confident at an award show, I did not win. And I’m dedicating this award to the wonderful cast and crew of the movies I have worked on. Especially to Leila Djansi, who believed in my talent to cast me first in Ghana,” she added.
Ama K. Abebrese recently had a photo shoot in London with her ‘International African Film Personality' statuette that she picked up at the 2013 Screen Nation Awards in Westminster, London. She was photographed by Ernest Simons. Celebrity stylist and creative consultant Marian Kihogo styled the shoot; hair was by Kavel Hair and makeup by Donita Boateng.
