While performing his ‘Faithful’ song which featured Yaayaa (Bertha), Okyeame decided to walk into the audience to pick Amanda to take the place of Yaayaa, who was not seen at the programme at all.
They made a good duo on stage though some had suggested Okyeame’s ex-lover Nana Ama McBrown, who had already performed with Adwoa Smart, Kweku Menu and Taller of Cantata fame, would have brought back some sweet memories.
But Amanda ‘killed it’ with the musical side of her, to the extent that some people began to question whether “Okyeame Kwame was going to pay Amanda, the share of the money he was paid to perform.”
Their performance turned dramatic when they were about ending the song.
Just when the song was about to end, Okyeame jumped into the arms of Amanda hoping she would grab and carry him like “a baby”.
The incident was followed by an uproar and laughter as they both remained on the floor for a while before Amanda was finally helped out of the stage.
Saturday’s ‘Ghana Meets Naija’ concert was the third of its kind organized by Bola Ray’s Empire Entertainment. It was held at the Accra International Conference Centre where hundreds of music enthusiasts thronged.
It brought both exciting and boring moments when music talents took turns on stage to perform to their large fans.
One after the other MC KOD introduced artistes from the two countries.
There were performances by Wizkid, Samini, Timaya, Bandana, EL, Kwaw Kese, Edem, Dr. Sid, Jupiter, Stonebuoy Raquel, D’Black, Bisa and others. Burna Boy and R2bees who were mentioned to perform didn’t appear on stage.
Artiste of the Year R2Bees was out of town for the 2013 BET Awards while it was being speculated that Burna Boy did not perform because of his deal with GLO which barred him from appearing on the stage of the MTN sponsored show. Shatta Wale Bandana set the tone for the exciting part of the show with his, ‘Dancehall King’, rhythms. Many had thought that his performance was too early for the night. Jupiter was next with a not too convincing performance judging by the crowd’s response. However, Stonebuoy managed to swing the crowd back into the party mood as they sang along to some of his lines. Dr. Sid maintained the tempo when he came on stage. But it appeared the crowd was only waiting for his ‘Pop Champaign’.
Double and Dr. Slim came to do their bit to pave way for a surprise performance by actress Nana Ama McBrown.
It was then the turn of new artiste Joey B who many had thought should have started the show. But his act was later explained as an opener for D-Black who performed after him.
There was something different about Timaya when he came on stage. He exhibited some level of maturity with his performance. Timaya was the first artiste whose DJ was heard backing him. His chemistry with the crowd was awesome. He got the VIP audience and the entire crowd standing on their feet to enjoy him.
Finally when he was about to leave stage, he had no choice but to perform his ‘Bum Bum’ song which the crowd was apparently waiting for.
EL was next on stage and he did not disappoint. EL made a good pair with Kwaw Kese and Edem who joined him one after the other during his performance.
Edem, Raquel and Okyeame Kwame followed with their performances.
Star boy crooner Wizkid was obviously the star of the night, considering how the audience was in love with his songs. They just wanted to see him on stage.
Indeed his stage act was nothing to write home about but he clicked with the crowd. He communicated with the crowd and rocked.
Samini closed the night with a top notch act. It is always difficult to be the last to perform when the crowd is tired but Samini managed to keep large numbers to wait for him to end the show.
This year’s event was attended by the likes of Don Jazzy, Jim Iyke, Sule Muntari, Asamoah Gyan, Baffour Gyan and a host of other stars.
