Award-winning Ghanaian arts director, Prince Tony Tomety, has arrived in the United States of America, for Leila Djansi’s upcoming indie drama, ‘And Then There Was You’. “He will be working as part of the production design team for the film. I like his work a lot and I think it’s good he explores what opportunities Hollywood may have for his talent which is under-utilized in Ghana,” Leila told NEWS-ONEyesterday about flying Prince Tony to the USA.
Prince Tony, a former student of National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI), has worked in Ghana’s movie industry as a production designer and arts director for the past eight years.
He has worked on a couple of Ghanaian movies that made it to the international market including ‘No Time To Die’, Leila’s ‘Sinking Sands’, and Ties That Bind, ‘Warrior Queen’, and a number of others.
He also works on TV commercials and music videos and has a number of awards to his credit, including Best Art Direction award at NAFTI (2006) and Ghana Movie Awards (2010).
Now he is set to face another challenge with ‘And Then There Was’.
Earlier this week, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Garcelle Beauvais has signed on to star in ‘And Then There Was You’. Beauvais stars as a teacher who has to pick up the pieces of her life after her husband leaves. When she falls for a new man, she discovers he, too, has possible relationship-ending secrets. Djansi wrote the script.
Suzanne Patrick, Ryan Daly and Tim Taylor are producing the movie and Dave Harper is the executive producer.
Also in the movie are Lynn Whitfield, Greg Vaughan, Leon Robinson, Kate Nauta and Trilby Glover.
Shooting is due to start in May in Los Angeles. The project is being made as a Turning Point Pictures production in association with OHTV, headed by Akin Salami and Michael Djaba.
Djansi is a Ghanaian filmmaker who has taken the African movie scene by storm. She wrote and directed the award-winning drama, Ties That Bind.
Beauvais most recently appeared as Denzel Washington’s ex-wife in Robert Zemeckis’ Flight and next plays the first lady to Jamie Foxx’s president in Sony’s upcoming summer tentpole, White House Down. She will guest star in an episode of USA's Necessary Roughness.
Garcelle Beauvais (born November 26, 1966) is a Haitian actress, singer, and former fashion model best known for her roles as Francesca "Fancy" Monroe on The WB television sitcom, The Jamie Foxx Show, which ran from 1996 to 2001, and as Valerie Heywood on the ABC crime drama, NYPD Blue.
