Kingsley Kofi Deffor, a Ghanaian fashion designer of over six years, has painted a good image of Ghana’s fashion designing industry.
He told NEWS-ONE in an exclusive interview that looking at the kind of designs that were being churned out lately, he believed the industry was not only growing but also transitioning to meet international standards.
However, there was the need to put up certain structures and fashion cultures to further encourage growth, he added.
“It is good now but we need to improve. If you look at some local designs out there in Ghana now, you notice that we are not doing badly. We should work extra hard to build fashion culture with national fashion event and modeling shows like Exopa’s contest and the recent introduction of fashion awards. We need some of these things to take it to the next level. The industry has a future,” he said.
Kinsley Kofi Deffor is the CEO of Deff Clothing located in front of Nkawkaw house adjacent the new Labadi Police Station. He has been in the designing industry for over six years and has been part of several runway programmes where his designs were exhibited. He also exhibited his products at top fashion event Pan African Fair and several times at the International Trade Fair in Accra.
He designs and sews cloths and is involved in art painting as well.  Most of his designs are inspired by nature. He observes and checks other people’s clothes and creates new ideas out of them.
He is one of the few designers who sell their products outside Ghana.
He is one of the designers whose designs have been praised on Exopa New Faces platform.
“It’s been six years now that I have been doing this. I don’t copy so it makes it is a bit challenging but it is good,” he stated.
Kinsley hails from Eastern Region, precisely Somanya. He is the first of three boys. He currently lives in Labadi, a suburb of Accra.
Growing up, fashion designing was always his passion. So he decided to sharpen his talent by reading visual art and subjects as textile, Graphic designing and others.
After high school, he enrolled at the Ultimate School of Arts, USA to further prepare him for the fashion industry. Today, he is making a living from fashion designing.
He thinks there is more room for improvement in Ghana’s fashion industry.
